Biography
Pamela Greene is a visual artist whose family originates from Sligo on the west coast of Ireland. Born in Belfast, she now lives and works near the Ards Peninsula, northern Ireland. Following a career in law, she decided to pursue her love for painting. In 2020, she graduated from Ulster University with an Honours degree (First Class) in Fine Art. In 2022, she graduated Master of Fine Art with Distinction also from Ulster University and was awarded the Siobhan McQuade Memorial Prize for Painting for her degree show. She has exhibited in many group shows in Ireland and in 2025, had her first solo exhibition at the Fenderesky Gallery, Belfast. She is a member of Visual Artists Ireland and AND Culture and is represented by Fenderesky Gallery, Belfast, and Battletown Gallery, Newtownards. Her work is held in private collections.
The process of painting enables Greene to explore her connection with nature, the feelings that are inspired by harsh, largely unpeopled landscapes and her need to understand why she is drawn to these inhospitable places and what they signify for her. Abstraction allows her an emotional and intellectual freedom to create a language in paint that expresses her sense of the inherent violence within nature, the darkness beneath the surface, the juxtaposition of beauty and death in a way that words cannot. She chooses her palette to reflect that language. Her process is intuitive rather than planned. Often she will paint over old pieces, allowing the original painting an opportunity to express something new. She builds up and strips back layers of paint, concealing, revealing, sometimes leaving the paint scarred and pitted, but always adding to the narrative within the painting.
